Join the Durango Public Library as a Youth Services Library Associate and help create a welcoming space for kids and their families to grow. As part of our Youth Services team, you’ll help bring programs to life for children and teens, igniting a sense of curiosity and a love for reading. You’ll be at the heart of making our library an inclusive environment for everyone, while also reaching out to local schools to expand learning opportunities for students. As part of the larger library team, you’ll provide great customer service to patrons of all ages and support our community’s journey of lifelong learning.

Essential Job Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role: 

  • Assist library patrons by providing friendly and knowledgeable support.
  • Handle circulation tasks, including issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, inspecting returned items for damage, managing holds, generating notices, and processing payments for fines and fees.
  • Help patrons use library equipment, such as computers, printers, scanners, self-check stations, and photocopiers.
  • Guide patrons in using electronic resources, including the library catalog, databases, and downloadable materials.
  • Sort and shelve Library materials as needed.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the library and its collection.
  • Assist with program planning and implementation for children and teens, create displays, and be involved in essential support tasks that contribute to the overall success of our programs and services.
  • Support library operations and patrons of all ages in a variety of settings.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience and dedication to delivering high-quality customer service.

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Understand the purpose of a public library and are interested in learning the specifics of youth programming and library operations.
  • Are thorough and attentive to detail, whether you are organizing materials, entering data, or managing library accounts.
  • Are a reliable team player who also works well independently to complete tasks on time.
  • Can switch between tasks easily, such as moving from technical support to assisting with a youth event.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Are a natural problem-solver who remains professional when helping patrons find solutions.
