The Aspen High School seeks a Long Term Substitute as a Library Media Specialist to start SY 2026-2027 

 

Position Title: Library Media Specialist 

Department: Aspen High School 

Reports to: Aspen High School Principal

Classification: Long Term Substitute (Requires a valid Substitute Authorization through CO Dept. of Education)

Contract Period: Aug 5th, 2026 - October 31st, 2026

Salary Range:  $297.00 / Day

 

 

I: Position Summary

 

The Library Media Specialist works in the school library to support students and staff with informational resources. This position requires the ability to support educational programming as well as advanced communication and collaboration skills.

 

II. Position Responsibilities

Library Media Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Work with the administration as collaborative peers to provide leadership and meaningful learning experiences for students, staff, and community
  • Teach research/ digital citizenship /media literacy skills to help students utilize information technology in order to responsibly engage in their global community
  • Encourage and empowers students to become increasingly self-directed as they create digital products of their learning that engage them in critical thinking, collaboration, and authentic real-world problem-solving
  • Build and manage a diverse collection in multiple formats that reflects a wide variety of viewpoints
  • Embed meaningful integration of digital literacy (technology, digital citizenship and more) into learning.
  • Provide access to student self-selection of wide and diverse reading collections in a variety of formats
  • Provide teachers with and train them about vetted online and in-person resources to promote literacy skills 
  • Organize library materials for effective and efficient utilization, helping maintain a facility that is conducive to learning
  • Navigate circulation management, book processing, cataloging, and report generation 
  • Using best library practices, update the library collection through additions and weeding of materials
  • Possess knowledge of qualitative and quantitative ranges of text complexity
  • Manage the ordering for books, databases, resources, and supplies
  • Create partnerships by attending grade level/department meetings, serving on the school’s leadership team, and participating in other committees such as technology 
  • Collaborate with the MYP Personal Project Coordinator to support students and staff with their personal projects.
  • Coordinate IB Extended Essay work with IB students and IB Coordinator to research and develop essays; and support IB students and teachers with IA research sessions
  • Coordinate with and/or teach Freshman Seminar to introduce research skills and a research component to that course
  • Supervise the learning space, oversee chromebook management and the student printer
  • Manage the duties of volunteers in the media center
  • Share with the learning community collaboratively developed and up-to-date policies concerning materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, and acceptable use
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Demonstrate flexibility with regard to interruptions and changing conditions
  • Work efficiently to complete tasks with limited supervision and to meet deadlines
  • Observe all district policies and procedures
  • Observe all general safety rules.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

IV. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Significant knowledge of GSuite for Education, computer systems, and software 

V. Preferred Qualifications 

  • Masters of Library and Information Science highly recommended
  • High School Teaching or Librarian Experience
  • Colorado Professional teacher license 
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification   

VI. Work Environment

  • Classroom and library settings
  • Office environment; exposure to computer screens 
  • Mostly clean and comfortable surroundings

 

VII. Essential Physical Requirements

  • Physical: Reaching, walking, standing, sitting, squatting, stooping, typing, talking, crouching, kneeling, seeing, and hearing. Lifting up to 40 lbs.
