Come and make a difference with us

At Western Bay of Plenty District Council, everything we do is about making the everyday better — and helping our communities thrive, now and into the future.

Western Bay is a District undergoing significant growth and transformation. From planning for future communities to delivering the infrastructure that supports them, we’re focused on getting the fundamentals right — and preparing for what comes next.

We’re also focused on our people - we believe in investing in and empowering our teams to grow, lead, and achieve their goals. Because when our people thrive, our communities do too.

If you're motivated by making the everyday better, helping people thrive, and leaving things better than you found them — we’d love to hear from you.

The opportunity

Looking for paid summer work where you can meet great people, get involved in your community and build valuable real-world experience along the way?

We’re looking for four enthusiastic Library Summer Interns to join our Library and Customer Services team over the summer period.

The Library Summer Interns work alongside the library teams across Waihī Beach, Katikati, Ōmokoroa and Te Puke. The purpose of this role is to support the planning and delivery of our children's programmes during the summer period for the Western Bay community.

This is a great opportunity to gain first-hand experience in delivering children’s programmes and learn more about the library services provided by Western Bay of Plenty District Council.

This role would be a great fit for students who enjoy working with children, have an interest in running activities, and are keen to gain some practical work experience over the summer.

This is a full-time, fixed-term role for the summer period.

To set you up for success, you’ll bring:

  • A positive attitude and enjoy being part of a team
  • Energy and enthusiasm to help with a wide range of tasks
  • A flexible approach and willingness to get stuck in and help where needed
  • Reliability and the ability to commit to working Saturday mornings
  • Confidence communicating and working with a range of people
  • A current full driver licence
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand

Applicants for these positions should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit.

Applications close 11.55pm Sunday, 18 October 2026.
