Summary
The Library/Media Technician will support the educational mission of Lake Shore Public Schools by managing library resources, assisting students and staff in accessing information, and promoting media literacy. This full-time position requires a proactive individual who is passionate about fostering a love for reading and learning, while also integrating technology and media into the educational experience.
We are seeking two (2) candidates (Violet and Rodgers Elementary)
Responsibilities
- Assist in the management and organization of library resources, including books, periodicals, and digital media.
- Provide support to students and staff in locating and utilizing library materials and technology.
- Facilitate the circulation of library materials, including checking in and out items, managing inventory, and maintaining accurate records.
- Develop and implement programs and activities that promote literacy, research skills, and a love of reading among students.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum and support classroom instruction.
- Maintain the library environment to ensure it is welcoming, safe, and conducive to learning.
- Assist in the selection and acquisition of new library materials, including books, e-books, and multimedia resources.
- Provide training and support for students and staff on the use of library technology, online databases, and digital resources.
- Stay current with trends in library science, technology, and media literacy to enhance library services.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborate with other library/media professionals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree in library science, education, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working in a library or educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in the use of technology, including computers, library management software, and digital resources.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of current trends in library services, media literacy, and educational technology.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to lift and move library materials as needed.
