POSITION:        Instructional Media Technician

DEPARTMENT:  Library Media

REPORTS TO:    Principal/Library Media Coordinator

SALARY:            Unit IV Salary scale Grade 51 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate with additional training desirable
  • Associate Degree, 48 Hours College Credits, or a Passing Score on the ParaPro Assessment a minimum requirement
  • Degree in Library Science, Instructional/Information Technology, Education, or related field preferred
  • Computer literate with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to communicate and professionally work with individual or groups of children, teachers, parents, and members of the community
  • Basic understanding of the operation of a library media center

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Library resource circulation use and organization
  • Notifying and collecting overdue materials (books, videos, etc.) and/or payments
  • Reserving use of library space
  • Library management (inventory, weeding, book processing, ordering, repair, and shelving)
  • Completion of MSDE Annual Report
  • Providing resources (books, tapes, equipment, links, etc.) to teachers and students
  • Technology maintenance assistance
  • Maintaining the computer labs, carts, and other technology devices
  • Place equipment repair requests for technology they manage
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration

 

Other Requirements and Working Conditions:

 

Other than those physical/mental requirements included within the Qualifications and Responsibilities, the individual

  • Must be able to communicate on the telephone.
  • Must be able to get around the media center, locate and retrieve and/or shelve books or materials.

There is constant standing and walking; frequent bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, and reaching above the shoulder to shelve books and to stand on step ladder/stool.

  • Must be able to carry and/or lift up to 25 pounds to receive and handle book orders, move damaged equipment, and lift and move audio-visual equipment.
