    Holland Public Schools is located in Holland, Michigan. The district has four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school and has an enrollment of approximately 3000 students.  We offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish in grades K-8.  Holland Public Schools has a diverse student population with approximately 47% Latinx, 9% Black, 6% Multiracial, 3 % Asian and 35% White and approximately 64% free and reduced lunch.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The District Library Assistant will work with the Library Coordinator to run and maintain HPS libraries. 

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Responsible for library operation in two elementary buildings and help as needed with HMS library and/or High School Book Nook (with assistance and collaboration of the Library Coordinator). This entails: 

    1. Coordinating with teachers and administrators in assigned buildings to plan a regularly scheduled bi-weekly library time and maintaining communication throughout the school year
    2. Prepare for and facilitate book check-outs for students such that all students visit the library on a bi-weekly basis
    3. Maintain library space by re-shelving and straightening books and ensuring accurate and up to date catalog records
    4. Effectively use library software and hardware to maintain accurate student records and print out reports for teachers as needed
    5. Assist in the selection of new books and new book processing once materials arrive, repair and re-shelve damaged materials



    QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following:   The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    1. Some college education preferred.
    2. Some library experience preferred.
    3. Experience working or volunteering in schools strongly preferred.
    4. Computer skills commensurate with job demands: using library software, Microsoft Office, and email.
    5. Work Hours: Up to 20 hours per week.
    6. Reports to the Superintendent with oversight and training by the Library Coordinator.



     PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

    1. Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the building for extended periods of time
    2. Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
    3. Ability to intervene physically when required, including:
      1. Implementing approved de-escalation and safety techniques.
      2. Assisting with safe physical redirection or restraint in accordance with district policy and training.
    4. Ability to lift or assist students, typically up to 40�50 pounds, as needed for safety.
    5. Ability to respond quickly to behavioral incidents or emergencies.
    6. Tolerance for high-stress situations, loud environments, and unpredictable behaviors.
    7. Sufficient vision, hearing, and communication skills to monitor student behavior and respond appropriately.
