Position Description Summary

Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a part-time Library Associate I.

The Library Associate I (Circulation) supports the daily services and operations provided by the Circulation department of the Eshleman Library. Models concepts of outstanding customer service and demonstrates effective communication skills in assisting students, faculty, staff, and community members. Utilizes previous library experience to use, troubleshoot, and maintain patron records within the library’s integrated library system (ILS). Provides support fulfilling MeL requests and locating materials needed. Confidently assists patrons with photocopying, printing, and scanning. Clearly and concisely reinforces library policies to ensure equitable access for all users. Like all members of the Circulation department, the Library Associate I will uphold the commitment to making spaces, services, and collections welcoming, accessible, and safe for a diverse community of library users.

Hours: The generally scheduled workday is from 8:00am to 2:00pm, Monday through Thursday.

  • Earned associate degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • One year of experience working in a library setting.
  • Two years of experience providing customer service to a wide range of individuals.

  • Familiarity with and ability to use Circulation staff functions of an ILS (specifically, Innovative Interface’s Sierra).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to

  • Provides customer service at the Circulation Desk by answering phones, checking materials in and out, manage library holds, assist library users in locating materials, and offer general information about the Library and College.
  • Aids in maintaining accurate library records within the Library’s integrated library system (ILS)
  • Performs routine maintenance on and troubleshoots problems for a variety of office equipment and technology, including but not limited to printers, copiers, scanners, multi-line phones, and computers.
  • Assists with MeL requests
  • Assists patrons with printing, copying, and scanning.
  • Helps maintain the order and accuracy of the library collection.
  • Performs library work related to shelving and stack maintenance.
  • Understands and exercises confidentiality, as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of qualifications and training.
