The San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Library, Learning Resources & Communication Media Division seeks an innovative faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to student success for a full-time tenure track position. The selected individual will provide high-quality instruction and contribute to the academic, professional, and institutional life of the college. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, equity, student success, and collaborative governance.

Representative Duties:

The following duties are typical of those performed by faculty in this classification. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.

  • Work one-on-one with students to analyze and understand assignments and projects, and devise and execute research strategies. 
  • Recommend alternative resources and strategies, encouraging students to explore. 
  • Introduce students and faculty to information resources and systems (e.g., online catalog and databases) 
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of research guides, instructional handouts, websites, social media, and other outreach and instructional virtual and print materials. 
  • Collaborate with teaching faculty to identify new resources to support departmental curriculum. 
  • Serve on at least one standing campus committee as liaison to and from the library.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
 (To be specified in accordance with California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Faculty Minimum Qualifications):

  • Master’s in library science, library and information science,

OR 

the equivalent 

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic,cultural,disability,andethnicbackgroundsofcommunitycollegestudents, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
  • Experience within the past 3 years as a reference librarian in a variety of modalities (e.g., in person, chat, phone, email) with an emphasis on helping students with research, technology, online learning, and college resources.
  • Experience within the past 3 years in library instruction in a variety of settings and formats and in the design of instructional materials, including general campus outreach and partnership development.
  • Experience in the past 3 years in teaching and curriculum design in a distance-learning environment.
  • Experience within the past 3 years in the curation of Open Educational Resources (OER) and an understanding of Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) programs.
  • Experience with facility and familiarity with existing and emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance library services and instruction, for example, LibGuides, Microsoft Office, Google suite, learning management systems, and design software, with some experience working with in the backend environment of Ex Libris or other library management systems and individual databases.
  • Experience with collecting and analyzing library statistics and outcomes for ongoing improvement.

Employment Requirements

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

  • Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
  • Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
  • Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule)
  • Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see job posting qualifications section for details). 

 

Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment. These requirements are in accordance with the San Bernardino Community College District’s Administrative Procedures and Board Policies.
