The Durango Public Library is a community space where people come together to learn, connect, and explore new ideas. Supporting that mission means keeping the building clean, welcoming, and ready for everyone who walks through the doors. We’re looking for a part-time Library Custodian to clean and maintain the library building and grounds while performing essential maintenance duties that keep our facility running smoothly for our community.

Essential Job Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role: 

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors to maintain a clean environment for library visitors
  • Dust furniture and clean windows and glassware throughout the facility
  • Sanitize and stock restrooms, kitchen areas, and water fountains
  • Pick up litter, sweep sidewalks, and remove snow or ice from library grounds
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for community meetings and library programs
  • Perform minor building repairs such as replacing light bulbs and checking for leaks
  • Conduct routine inspections of electrical outlets and light fixtures to keep them in working order
  • Keep accurate logs of work performed and equipment used during your shift
  • Help create a secure and welcoming environment for both staff and patrons

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:

  • Previous cleaning and/or landscape experience (preferred)
  • The ability to read and write at a level necessary to follow instructions and maintain simple logs

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Are reliable and can stay on task without constant supervision
  • Follow instructions and complete work with consistency and care 
  • Enjoy interacting with the public and staff in a friendly, professional manner
