Norfolk Public Library is a department of the City of Norfolk in Norfolk, VA. The Norfolk Public Library offers equal opportunity access to information, high quality books and multimedia materials, programs, exhibits, online resources and technology. We are currently seeking Branch Managers for multiple locations. This position is responsible for professional, supervisory and administrative work directing the day-to-day operations of a neighborhood branch. Duties include staff scheduling, attention to the branch facility and technology, selecting, training and evaluating branch staff. Work also includes overseeing, developing and implementing innovative programs, services and special events to promote the use of the branch. Develop and collaborate with community partners to enhance the programs and services of the branch. Participates in system-wide initiatives and committees. Works closely with library leadership to assure services are responsive to patron needs.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Serves as part of the leadership team at NPL. Communicates and collaborates with all leadership and departments within the City of Norfolk and NPL.
Upholds policies established by Library Administration
Provide a positive, innovative, and collaborative work environment
Supervises employee recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and performance reviews.
Directs the operations of the library including customer service, reference and readers’ advisory services, circulation, assisting in developing and implementing innovative programming, collection development.
Monitors and oversees the acquisitions of equipment, programming supplies and vendors, and collection development.
Oversees facility maintenance, custodial services and security services
Ensure policies and procedures are implemented for staff and the community.
Provides leadership and mentoring for staff development and retention.
Develop, promote and cultivate partnerships through outreach and community engagement.
Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline which is acquired in a Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university.
Two years experience as a professional Librarian or equivalent professional experience including management experience. The candidate should have extensive knowledge in customer service, branch procedures i.e. reference, circulation, collection development and programming.
