Description

The Position

We are seeking a qualified and passionate Teacher Librarian to enrich the learning experiences of our staff and students. This is a unique opportunity inspire, encourage and support the learning of students and teachers, and to engender a love of literature.

The College Learning Centres provide students the opportunity to learn within a number of innovative learning environments. These flexible, dynamic, technology-rich spaces create situations where deep learning can occur in an engaging, inclusive and academic atmosphere. Designed to be multidisciplinary and communal, the Nash Learning Centre encourages community-wide engagement in STEM, English and the Arts, Humanities, Religious Education, Languages, Health, and Trade.

The Teacher Librarian plays a key role in the provision and effective management of learning and teaching resources and technologies across the school. The role is to inspire, encourage and support the learning of students and teachers, and to engender a love of literature. This position reports to the Learning Centre Leader (Head of Library).

Key responsibilities:

The Teacher Librarian supports the strategic and operational objectives of the College Learning Centre by:

  • Support of the effective and efficient daily operations of the library.

  • Support of users to access learning resources in and beyond school through the library homepage and library resource guides.

  • Liaison with Curriculum Leaders to facilitate the development of resources and library services to support curriculum objectives of the College.

  • Assist students to be discerning users of information, encouraging the ethical use of information and resources, research skills and referencing.

  • Develop the culture of reading by providing an environment that encourages reading, promoting engaging reading sessions and new acquisitions, organising digital and print displays, and Book Week activities.

  • Assist teaching staff with the resourcing of curriculum, making recommendations regarding resources to meet the needs of student learning outcomes at each year level.

  • Supporting the promotion of the Library and Information Services via relevant communication channels.

We are seeking applications from qualified teachers (including graduate teachers) for this ongoing position.  This is a full-time or part-time (FTE0.8 and above) position.

 

About You:

  • Suitable teaching qualifications and experience, with current VIT registration

  • Well versed in library and information systems, online databases, and print and digital resources which support the curriculum.

  • Sound knowledge and expertise in teaching and learning.

  • Knowledge of literature, reading engagement and literary trends.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Sound knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and VCE.
