JOB SUMMARY

The part-time Library Clerk performs library materials processing tasks under the supervision of the Youth Services Manager.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/WORK PERFORMED

  • Prepare children's and young adult library materials for circulation (labeling, laminating, etc.)
  • Check materials in after processing and repairing items in the children's and young adult collection.
  • Assist with shelving materials as needed.
  • Repairs damaged children's and young adult materials in collection for recirculation.
  • Withdraws weeded materials from collection; donates appropriate materials to Friends of the Library; disposes of withdrawn materials as needed.
  • Assists Collection Strategy Coordinator in creating and maintaining children's special collections.
  • Maintains supplies needed for materials processing and repairs; coordinate with adult services library clerk as needed. 
  • Assists Youth Services Manager with special projects as needed. 


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Knowledge of library personnel and their responsibilities, library regulations, procedure, and services.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology.
  • Ability to maintain clerical records and prepare accurate reports as required. 
  • Knowledge of word processing and the use of computers. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Ability to sit, bend, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull as required.
  • Physical agility, strength, and dexterity necessary for handling library materials up to 35 pounds. 
  • Dexterity to use basic technology equipment, including a keyboard, mouse, and touchpad.
  • Interpersonal skills and cognitive flexibility to interface with a variety of internal and external customers in diverse, sometimes high-stress situations. 
  • Executive functioning skill appropriate for a busy, fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Public library experience is preferred.

  • Works in an office environment.
  • The Marion Public Library is a busy, customer-focused library with a high level of use by patrons of all ages. Patrons have high expectations regarding the quality and efficiency of library services.
