DescriptionDescription of Job Duty:
The purpose of this position is to create better online access to archive materials through digitization and description. Under the direction of the University Archivist, assists the archives in digitizing and describing materials for harvest by external sources such as the Digital Library of Tennessee and the Digital Public Library of America.

ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
- Digitizes, ingests, and describes using available historical information, existing and new digitized and born-digital materials in a digital asset management system following archive procedures and standards. Manages description and access, and makes the materials harvestable by external content providers.
- As part of the archive team, assists in facility management and reference
- Assists archives in special projects
- Performs quality control for digitized content from vendors and Digitization Services Department staff and students for placement in the digital asset management system and for reference
- Oversees the Archives' Digitization Services Department and directs the planning, operations, and conversion processes of digitizing materials, including assisting with RFPs for digitization
- Oversee all aspects of digital asset management and develop procedures based on best practices regarding digitization standards, metadata standards, workflows, technology, equipment, and training
- Maintains attendance and time records for student workers
- Checks, verifies, and corrects information in student worker files for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with procedural requirements
- Recommends hiring and discharge of student employees
- Works with individual students on specific tasks
- Improve best practices and skills through regular professional development

Work Hours:
Typical hours are Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Commensurate with education and experience. Level S4, Grade 8.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent with five years of related professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Experience in other library assistant positions or library coursework.
