The Martin County Library is currently accepting applications for a part-time Library Page, approximately 5-10 hours per week.

Library pages are responsible for shelving all library materials upon their return.  Additionally, they provide backup assistance to the circulation clerk on shift, when needed.  This may include, but is not limited to: checking materials in and out, answering the phone, helping patrons find materials, and general customer service.  Assists with children’s library programs on an as needed basis.  Responsible for following closing procedures at the end of the day.  This position is part time. Schedule includes evenings and Saturdays, in coordination with other library pages.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for shelving all library materials.
  • Provides assistance to circulation clerks, including checking materials in and out, answering the phone, helping patrons, and general customer service.
  • Assist with children’s programming as needed.
  • Responsible for closing procedures at the end of the day.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other work-related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 15 years of age.

  • Ability to operate computers, tablets and mobile devices and other general office equipment. Ability to learn new software programs and web-based systems as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and have good public relations skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The position has good working conditions in general, but is a diversified job requiring sustained mental effort related to organizational issues, planning and technical areas. 

 

The individual may encounter moderate emotional strain or tension.  There is sustained exposure to sitting and standing.  There is continuous exposure to computer keyboards and video screens and moderate exposure to lifting up to 40 pounds.

 

Continuous:  Stand; Bend or stoop; Kneel or squat; Lift or carry less than 10 lbs.;

Frequent:  Keyboarding; Repetitive movement; Walk; Work requires high attention to detail; Lift, carry, push, pull 26-60 lbs.

Occasional: Sit; Lift or carry 11-25 lbs.; Exposed to annoying odor; Exposed to sickening odor; Exposure to emotional public; Exposure to offensive language; Work with arms above shoulder.

Intermittent: Some mental effort and stress involved resulting in frustration; Considerable mental effort and stress; Work with frequent deadlines; Lift, carry, push, pull over 60 lbs.; Inability to leave work station for long periods of time; Exposure to threats.

 

This position is responsible for the use of modern office machines and equipment.
