LIBRARY/MEDIA SPECIALIST

 

SOUTHERN ELEMENTARY (3 Days) & HORSE BRANCH ELEMENTARY (2 Days)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Kentucky certificate, license, or other legal credentials required.

2. Experience and other qualifications as specified by the Superintendent.

3. Ability to work effectively with students

4. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

SUPERVISES: 1. Students and assigned clerical assistants.

 

JOB GOAL: To provide all students with an enriched library/media environment containing a wide variety and range of materials and equipment that invites intellectual growth, and aids all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.0 Management and Administration of the Library/Media Center

1.1 Recognizes the critical role of information retrieval in the future of education.

1.2 Establishes and maintains an environment in which students and staff can work at productive levels.

1.3 Manages student behavior in a constructive manner.

1.4 Demonstrates competency in selection, acquisition, circulation, and maintenance of materials and equipment.

1.5 Prepares statistical records and reports needed to administer the library/media center.

1.6 Trains and supervises library/media center personnel to perform duties efficiently.

1.7 Administers budgets according to needs and objectives of the library/media center within administrative guidelines.

1.8 Evaluates library/media center programs, services, facilities, and materials to assure optimum use.

1.9 Uses time effectively, efficiently, and professionally.

 

2.0 Instructional Process

2.1 Exercises leadership and serves as a catalyst in the instructional program.

2.2 Plans and implements the library/media center program of library/media skills.

2.3 Promotes the development of reading skills and reading appreciation.

2.4 Supports classroom teachers in their instructional units.

2.5 Provides resources for professional growth of faculty and staff.

 

3.0 Interpersonal Relationships

3.1 Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with students.

3.2 Demonstrates positive interpersonal relation with educational staff.

3.3 Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with parents/patrons.
