JOB TITLE: Library Media Specialist – Accelerating Campus Excellence (ACE) Campus(K–8)

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary Scale
ACE STIPEND: $2,500 Annual ACE Instructional Support Stipend (in accordance with the District ACE Compensation Plan)
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Library Media Specialist – Accelerating Campus Excellence (ACE) Campus collaborates with campus leadership and teaching staff to support literacy development, information literacy, and the integration of instructional technology to improve student learning outcomes.
The Library Media Specialist supports the ACE campus turnaround model by strengthening reading culture, promoting student inquiry and research skills, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality information resources. The role provides specialized instruction to students and teachers while overseeing the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of library, information, and curriculum resources to support improved academic performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certification
- Minimum of two (2) years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Experience teaching, modeling, and coaching educational technology for both students and staff
Preferred
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in library science, information/media services, or related field
- Experience serving as a library media specialist
- Experience supporting K–12 educational research and literacy initiatives

- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of literacy development and research-based reading strategies
- Expertise in integrating technology into instruction and learning environments
- Ability to collaborate with teachers to strengthen instructional practices
- Experience leading engaging professional learning sessions for staff
- Knowledge of digital resources, information literacy, and research skills instruction
- Ability to manage library operations and resource systems effectively
- Ability to support student inquiry, creativity, and problem-solving through research and technology
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Literacy Development and Reading Advocacy
- Promote a campus-wide culture of reading that supports both academic literacy and reading for pleasure.
- Support school-wide literacy initiatives and reading incentive programs.
- Provide book talks, reading recommendations, and literacy engagement opportunities for students and staff.
- Support classroom teachers in selecting instructional resources that strengthen literacy development.
Learning and Teaching
- Support the development of student information literacy skills including research, analysis, evaluation of sources, and problem solving.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate research and information literacy skills into classroom instruction.
- Provide direct instruction to students on research processes, digital literacy, and responsible technology use.
- Support students in becoming skilled creators and consumers of information and ideas.
Information Access and Instructional Technology Integration
- Provide instruction to students and staff on the use of information resources and instructional technologies.
- Assist teachers in designing lessons and projects that integrate technology and research skills.
- Provide instruction related to the research cycle, digital citizenship, internet safety, intellectual property, and copyright.
- Support the effective use of digital resources and educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
Library Program Administration
- Manage the daily operations of the campus library media program.
- Develop and maintain a diverse collection of print, digital, and multimedia resources aligned to campus instructional needs.
- Coordinate systems for library circulation, resource management, and access to instructional materials.
- Create and maintain the campus library website and digital resource portal.
- Manage and maintain the campus Maker Space to support innovation, creativity, and student engagement.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Provide leadership and support to teachers in the integration of instructional technology and information literacy.
- Collaborate with campus leadership and instructional teams to support the ACE instructional model.
- Partner with Campus Instructional Technology Specialists to provide campus professional development, coaching, and modeling for instructional technology integration.
- Participate in campus instructional leadership meetings and collaborative planning processes.
- Participate as both a learner and facilitator in district professional development and professional learning communities.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain professionalism in conduct, communication, and work ethic.
- Maintain accurate records related to library resources, instructional support, and program implementation.
- Adhere to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and district policies.
- Participate in all required professional development and training, which may occur within or outside the regular instructional day or employee work calendar as part of the ACE instructional model.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by campus administration.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position may require travel within the district.
Mental demands include the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; interpret and analyze data; interpret policies and procedures; apply knowledge of current educational research and instructional practices; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and maintain emotional control under stress.
The position may require participation in professional development, collaborative planning sessions, and instructional meetings beyond the standard school day as part of the ACE instructional model.
