JOB TITLE:Library Media Center Assistant
JOB GOAL: Assist school Library Media Specialist (LMS) in the full utilization of Library Media Center (LMC) services, materials, and resources offered to Marshfield R-1 students and staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise students in the LMC.
- Assist students and staff in locating, evaluating, and using electronic and print information resources.
- Assist students and staff by answering questions, gathering materials, demonstrating use of software, and providing instruction for multi-media production and viewing.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and attractive environment; and assist in preparation of displays.
- Follow standardized operating policies and procedures to:
- Maintain the library collection including: shelving books, reading shelves, adding and withdrawing items, mending and repairing items, and inventory.
- Prepare school library media collections for automation, which includes, but not limited to locating, entering and revising information in computer databases, applying spine labels and bar codes, and covering books.
- Circulate library materials, including scheduling facility use, reserving or holding material, checking materials in and out, delivering materials, sending overdue announcements, maintaining overdue records and collecting fines.
- Assist in training of volunteers and new library assistants
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school Library Media Specialist and school principal

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Ability to
- Supervise and work effectively with students in the assigned environment.
- Work effectively with school staff.
- Perform clerical tasks with limited supervision and assume clerical responsibility for a major segment of the library’s operations.
- Keep abreast of changing technologies and assume new responsibilities required by the introduction of new services and equipment.
- Knowledge of:
- Standard reference materials
- Computer operations, word processing, and data entry
- Basic operation of audio-visual equipment
- Basic Dewey classification and library material retrieval systems.
- Basic electronic search techniques including keyword and subject searching.

- Physical requirements:
- Constant standing and walking, frequent bending/stooping, squatting/crouching and reaching above the shoulder to shelve books, and standing on step ladder/stool.
- Occasional carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds to receive and handle book orders or move equipment.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
- Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy on evaluation.
- Performance evaluation includes stated responsibilities and adherence to school policies as outlined in district personnel handbook such as safety guidelines, dress standards, attendance, and leave policies.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Reports to the LMS and principal
- Salary and benefits based on the Instructional Assistant salary schedule of MR1 School District
- Work day schedule as determined by the LMS and principal.
- Contract length: 176 days ( 7 hours/day with ½ hour for lunch)
