Walla Walla Community College is accepting applications to fill the part-time role of Library & Archives Paraprofessional 1 on the Walla Walla Campus.

General Responsibilities:
This position will support operations and services at the Walla Walla Campus Library. This position is essential for maintaining access to resources and services that support student learning and success.  

Essential Functions:
Patron Support
Tasks include: 

  • Contribute to a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all Library patrons.
  • Assist with circulation transactions including check in/outs, renewals, and placing holds.
  • Assist Library patrons with technology support including basic Office, Canvas, and printing.
  • Assist patrons by providing directional and basic library and institutional information and referring to appropriate staff person, librarian, or department as needed for complex queries.
  • Support library assessment by maintaining usage stats manually and electronically (MS Office-Excel).
  • Support outreach and connection efforts through supporting library programming, displays, and maintaining and enhancing the library’s public spaces.
  • Maintain cleanliness of public spaces and computers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Stacks and Collection Maintenance
Tasks include: 
  • Responsible for physical collection maintenance including shelving, shelf-reading, applying “material appropriate cleaning techniques” and book covering and labeling.
  • Basic book repair if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to understand, respect and maintain strict confidentiality regarding patron records and inquiries.
  • Ability to create a student-centered environment. Including effective support, referrals to the most appropriate staff, faculty and resources to support student need and sharing ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness of services based on observations of the student experience.
  • Ability to learn essential electronic library systems including KOHA and basic fluency with library databases.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Required Qualifications: 
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of clerical and/or customer service experience. Equivalent education may substitute for experience at the discretion of the college.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree.
  • Experience working in a Library or Education environment.
  • Familiarity with CANVAS, Adobe, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Bilingual-Spanish/English.

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This part-time temporary position (up to 17-hours per week) is located at the Walla Walla Campus. The schedule for this position is as needed and may change quarterly.
Working hours may fall within the Operating Hours of the Walla Walla Campus, Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm.

Work is performed in an Academic Library setting, where there are fluctuations in quiet, noise level, and patron interactions and behaviors. Tools and equipment include Standard Office Equipment, Computing Device, Copiers, Printers, Scanners. Customer interactions are frequent. Complex questions are referred as appropriate to the Access Services Lead, Faculty Librarian, or Director of the WWCC Libraries.

Vacation, sick leave and personal leave benefits are available on a pro-rated basis.  

Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment.
