Job Description:

Better and fairer care.  Always.

St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and nearly 30,000 people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. We are a microcosm of Australia’s health and aged care system and are uniquely positioned to lead and respond to our rapidly changing environment.

We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent’s kind of person. Someone who puts excellence, compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.

Are you a storyteller with a passion for preservation? Reporting to the National Director of Formation & Purpose, the Archives & Heritage Lead - QLD will bridge the gap between our rich 19th-century origins and our mission. This is your chance to move beyond the archive boxes and animate history through creative exhibitions, tours, and digital storytelling that resonates with all our staff from clinical teams to executive leaders and inspire current and future generations.

Based in Brisbane, this is a permanent part-time opportunity working 22.5 hours per week.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Be a Guardian of History: Manage and document the archives collection in line with professional preservation requirements and archival principles.
  • Animate the Mission: Develop activities such as exhibitions, displays, tours, and publications that enhance the understanding of our heritage and the mission of the Sisters of Charity.
  • Collaborate for Impact: Partner with the Formation & Purpose team to support mission formation activities and ensure our legacy remains accessible to staff and the broader community.
  • Curate and Research: Respond to archival access requests from diverse functions within the organisation (Communications, Fundraising, Executive) and undertake research to enhance the context of our records.
  • Future-Proof our Records: Plan projects for digitisation and long-term preservation while overseeing the management of onsite and offsite storage facilities.

Things that work for us:

  • Comprehensive understanding of archival principles and preservation requirements for both documents and museum collections.
  • Proven capacity to research and communicate St Vincent’s history in an engaging manner to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders, including the Sisters of Charity Heritage Centre and internal Mission teams.
  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role (or significant professional experience) and eligibility for membership with the Australian Society of Archivists.
  • A deep commitment to the philosophy and values of St Vincent’s.

Things that work for you:

  • Be part of keeping St Vincent’s proud legacy alive, working alongside a team that is deeply connected to the purpose of St Vincent’s
  • Opportunity to work for the nation’s largest Catholic not-for-profit health and aged care provider, with a rapidly growing and progressive vision
  • More take-home pay with competitive salary packaging options up to $15,990, Novated leasing, plus an optional Meals and Entertainment card up to $2,650 per annum
  • Discounted private health insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program for staff and their families
  • Access to the Fitness Passport (FP)

At St Vincent’s we value inclusivity and diversity and acknowledge the importance of creating a work environment that is welcoming, safe, fair and impartial and invites people from all backgrounds to join us.
