LIBRARY PAGE
(Part-Time)

Do you enjoy helping people, staying organized, and working in a welcoming community environment? Join our team as a Library Page and play a vital role in connecting patrons to information, resources, and experiences that matter. Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of library support services related to patron assistance, circulation, and processing.

This position is an hourly/non-benefited position.  The candidate selected to fill this position is expected to work approximately 15-20 hours per week during mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. 

Current CalPERS members are not eligible to apply for this position.

Examples of Duties

  • Provides customer service at circulation desk; checks materials in and out; assists patrons with library application questions, inputs and updates patron account information; issues library cards; collects items from the book drop; assists patrons with computer problems.
  • Collects service payments and fines; responds to questions and complaints regarding fines.
  • Sorts and shelves materials using the library's filing systems.
  • Performs basic cataloging of library materials.
  • Requests and obtains materials from other libraries through the interlibrary loan system.
  • Assists in the planning, preparation, and presentation of library events, programs, and activities.
  • Creates library item displays and maintains physical and digital bulletin boards.
  • Assists in creating, proofreading, and posting flyers, calendars, and general marketing materials.
  • Performs basic mending of library materials.
  • Assists with the preservation of historical materials by digitizing documents, entering document metadata, and assisting with filing, preserving, and boxing archival items.
  • Provides input for library book and media purchases.
  • Removes discarded items from the library catalog; assists in packing and moving boxes of items that will be permanently removed from the library.
  • Responds to patron inquiries; explains library policies and procedures; answers basic reference questions; assists patrons to find and use library resources.
  • Performs additional duties as required to address business needs and changing business practices.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:  Basic alphabetical and numerical filing techniques and record keeping; cash handling, basic math; general knowledge of popular reading materials for children and adults; customer service principles and practices. 
 
Ability to:  Organize, sort and shelve library materials; operate modern office equipment including computers and applicable software applications; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. 

Special Requirements: Must be able to work varying hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
