Position Summary
At Ankeny Schools, our Teacher Librarians play a vital role in supporting student achievement, inquiry, and literacy development. Our Librarians foster a welcoming, inclusive library learning environment that promotes reading, research, digital citizenship, and information literacy. This position collaborates closely with classroom teachers and instructional staff to integrate library resources, technology, and inquiry-based learning into the curriculum.

Essential Functions
Instructional Support and Collaboration:
Collaborate with teachers to develop, deliver, and evaluate an information and technology literacy curriculum across assigned buildings, integrating instruction with digital learning classes at the K–5 level and embedding instruction into classroom activities at the 6–12 level. Partner with teachers and building staff to support curriculum implementation through co-planning, co-teaching, and instructional integration. Contribute to district curriculum development by serving as a classroom resource, participating in team planning, and providing instructional materials and support. Provide professional development on emerging technologies and online resources, support diverse learners, and help students become independent and effective users of information.
Technology and Digital Learning:
Promote and support the appropriate use of technology by students and teachers, including digital citizenship skills. Ensure that technology related to the district’s digital learning program (makerspace equipment, Chromebooks, tablets, etc.) is repaired, maintained, and updated as needed.
Library Services and Literacy Promotion:
Promote and assist staff and students in the use of a variety of print, non-print, and digital resources. Provide instructional support for and assistance with all facets of the research process. Provide reading guidance and encourage reading for both enjoyment and information. Communicate with parents and teachers on services of the library.
Library Program Administration:
Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school library program that supports building and district goals and meets State of Iowa requirements. Coordinate daily library operations in collaboration with building administrators, including budget management, textbook distribution, and supervision of library staff and volunteers. Promote effective use of the library by ensuring flexible access, fostering a welcoming environment, and communicating program goals and digital learning opportunities to stakeholders. Maintain accurate records and manage library materials, resources, and equipment in compliance with board policy and state and federal regulations.
Professional Growth and District Participation:
Participate in district-level meetings, professional development, committee work, and curriculum writing. Remain current in the profession through professional growth.
Attendance & Reliability:
Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance and punctuality in alignment with district expectations, recognizing the importance of being present for students. Maintain instructional continuity and strong relationships by ensuring students experience consistency, support, and stability in their learning environment.
