Minimum Qualifications
Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 years of library experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Supervisory experience
Preferred:
  • An MLS from an ALA-accredited program

Position Overview
Under general supervision, performs professional-level librarian duties, utilizing current technology and traditional resources to meet the informational, instructional, educational, and recreational needs of the community; manages assigned library collections and programs for the Waco-McLennan County Library (WPL).

Essential Functions
  • Provides technical and professional assistance to library patrons; assists and instructs people in ways to identify, locate, access, and use public information and resources; processes patron’s requests for additional resources.
  • Provides research, reference, and reader’s advisory services.
  • Develops, presents, and promotes library programs, services, training, and special promotions to patrons including outreach to schools, community groups, and at special events.
  • Develops and maintains print, media, and electronic collections by reviewing, evaluating, selecting, and weeding library materials.
  • Creates library publications, including bibliographies, guides, and displays.
  • Gathers and compiles data for reports of the library’s activities and operations.
  • Assists with training and supervision of volunteers and staff.
  • Oversees library/department security and checks to assure patrons comply with policies; maintains discipline and order in the library/department.
  • May be responsible for library operations in the branch manager’s absence.
  • Monitors the database and verifies the accuracy of records; verifies the accuracy and accessibility of catalog records.
  • Develops special promotions for patrons, including outreach programs and training classes.
  • Provides basic circulation service, as needed.
  • Substitutes at other library departments and branches as needed.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with resident, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work related issues and City information.
  • Must be able to report to a different location within 30 minutes as needed.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends, including Sunday afternoons.
